FIN 540 Money and Banking
FIN 540: Students will delve into the subjects explicitly indicated by its title: (1) money and (2) banking. The initial part of the curriculum will center around the fundamental enigma of monetary economics: the reasons behind the valuation of money and the factors that influence its value. The latter portion of the class will explore different theories concerning the functions of banks. Upon completion of the Money and Banking course, students are expected to acquire the ability to:
· Understand the benefits of financial systems and their potential problems.
· Apply simple economic models to understand the data about federal reserve system, financial markets, and institutions.
· Identify the monetary policies and integrate it with real-world events.
