SED 520 Context of Education

Context of Education (3). This course will discuss the philosophical assumptions of the College of Education's model, 'Educator as Decision Maker.' It will also focus on: (1) paradigm shifts on education, e.g., changing roles of administrators, teachers, parents, and support personnel in site-based management; (2) university/school partnerships and/or Professional Development Schools (PDS); (3) preparing teachers for diverse student populations in both rural and urban school settings through communication, collaboration, coaching and technology; (4) evaluation process through traditional grading and performance-based assessment, e.g., use of portfolios; and (5) professionalism and national teacher certification.
