ENGLISH COMPOSITION I (3). An introduction to the fundamentals of writing. Emphasis is placed on the clear, adequate and coherent expression of thought within the sentence, the paragraph and the essay; effective use of a variety of rhetorical modes; and the procedure for writing the research paper. Parallel readings are used for the study of structure and style, and a research project is required.
