HSC 5010 Patient Care Concepts II

PATIENT CARE C0NCEPTS II (2). This course lays the foundation for patient care. Safety issues including, but not limited to biohazards/infection control, body mechanics, use of gait belts and wheelchair locks and assessment of the environment will be discussed. Patient care skills such as draping techniques, transfers, bed mobility, wheelchair mobility and gait training with ambulatory assistive devices will be introduced. An emphasis is placed on the ability to establish positive interpersonal relations and effective communications with patients, family members and other team members in the healthcare setting and during specific patient care skill activities. Students will be address examination and evaluation techniques and rationale related to anthropometric characteristics, physiologic responses (vital signs and emergency situations), joint integrity and range and motor function and performance.
