Policy on Tuition Refunds or Credit for Students Called to Active Military Service
Alabama State University students who are enrolled at the University and receive orders which places them on active duty, will immediately bring orders to the Office of Veterans and Military Affairs (VMA). It is the policy of Alabama State University to take every reasonable step to ensure that students are not penalized for active-duty deployments or Annual Training orders.
The student, VMA and the Registrar will counsel the student about viable options for tuition refund. Institutional options are listed below:
• If it is not more than 60% of the term, the student will have the option of withdrawing with full refund of tuition and proportionate refund of room and board.
• If the call to duty occurs close to the end of the term, the student may be permitted to take the final examinations early and receive full credit for the course(s).
•If and the student receives orders after the midterm, and does not wish to complete the final examination, he or she may opt to receive an “incomplete” for the course(s) or withdraw from the course.
Students are responsible for notifying professors and academic advisors immediately upon receipt of military orders. This policy is in compliance with The Principles of Excellence.
