BIO 720 Microbial Genetics
MICROBIAL GENETICS AND GENOMICS (3). Molecular genetic methods and related aspects of prokaryotic and lower eukaryotic biology. Overview of approaches and tools used in genomic research. Covers experimental and computational technologies as well as theoretical concepts important for the study of genomes and their function. Topics include high-throughput DNA sequencing and genotyping, genetic mapping of simple and complex traits, RNA expression profiling, proteomics, genome modification and transgenesis, and computational genomics. Review and discussion of research literature to examine experimental design, methodology, and interpretation of both historical and contemporary relevance to microbial genetics. Prerequisites: Undergraduate/graduate microbiology, biochemistry or consent of instructor.
