BIO 730 Micro Physiol Diversity
MICROBIAL PHYSIOLOGY AND DIVERSITY (3). Main aspects of microbial growth, energy and biosynthesis pathways, metabolic regulation and integration of pathways into a coherent system. Emphasis on physiological diversity, global control systems governing the adaptation of microorganisms to different environmental conditions, and emerging methodologies. Metabolism and energy conservation in chemoheterotrophic and chemolithotrophic bacteria. Anoxygenic and oxygenic photosynthesis in prokaryotes. Bacterial motility and chemotaxis. Diversity of morphology, physiology and ecology of bacteria and other microorganisms. Prerequisites: Undergraduate/graduate microbiology, biochemistry or consent of instructor.
