CMM 417 Documentaries and Media Advocacy
DOCUMENTARIES AND MEDIA ADVOCACY (3). This course is designed for journalism majors to plan, develop, produce, and promote documentaries and investigative news packages about topics based on newsworthy principles.
Students will rely on theories of media, social change, and news advocacy in a historical context to critically consider the possibilities and limitations of media technologies and culture to promote social justice advocacy. This course anticipates that students have experience in writing and producing news stories for digital platforms. Additionally, the course aims to have students compete in competitions
and produce portfolio and industry-standard quality work to submit to competitions.
Prerequisites: CMM 212 Newswriting, CMM 213 Photojournalism and permission of instructor
