RCOU 510 Introduction to Addictions
This course explores the nature and various constructs of addiction including alcohol and other illegal substances and process addictions. Attention is given to related phenomena that produce and/or result in obsessive and compulsive behaviors as well as implicatons for education, prevention, treatment, and recovery. Students will: 1) learn the diagnostic criteria for addictive behaviors, as wellas models of etiology , and approaches to treament; 2) discern how both theory and research are important in the prevention and treatment of addiction, and 3) achieve a foundational understanding of addictive behaviors and how they impact individuals, families, and the larger community and society.
