SOCIAL WELFARE SERVICES & POLICIES I (3) This is the first of two sequential courses in the Social Welfare Policy and Services sequence designed to provide opportunities for student to analyze the historical and the philosophical development of social welfare and to develop skills in social welfare policy and program analysis, formulation and advocacy. Students learn the relationship of social welfare to the social, political, economic and cultural context in which it exists. Additionally, students learn that policy activities constitute a critical component of the provision of direct services to clients. This sequence emphasizes individuals' interdependence in the creation of social policy and promotes students understanding of the process by which such policies are enacted. Students are facilitated in perceiving social policy as an important aspect of professional Social Work practice. Social Work majors must have gained admission to the Social Work Program.
