GROUP DYNAMICS (3). The general purpose of this advanced social work practice course is to provide leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities to better understand and meet the challenges of working within complex and diverse social settings that address a range of contemporary social service issues. This course focuses on developing group leaders who possess both an understanding of group dynamics and effective leadership skills. The course emphasizes understanding, affirming, and respecting groups with diverse backgrounds with regards to race, ethnicity, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, physical or mental ability, age, national origin, etc. Students will learn to facilitate groups using evidenced-based theories and interventions to achieve client outcomes. Students will also know how to evaluate the effectiveness of group interventions
